| UK workshop |
Repair conditions and charges - click here to view as a single page
All equipment supplied by AOR UK LTD (less consumables) has a 12 month warranty from the time of supply. Where equipment has been purchased through an authorised UK dealer, we will assume a parallel warranty (although there may be a difference in the 12 month commencement between supply to dealer and final customer depending upon the stock rotation times).
Should you experience a failure, please contact your dealer (equipment supplier) for assistance, your legal contract exists between the dealer and yourself... statutory rights are not affected.
Occasionally the dealer will request that you ship the product directly to our UK workshop, we are willing to carry out warranty repairs on a free of charge basis (on behalf of the UK dealer) but we cannot offer to refund shipping expenses. Parts, labour and shipping from AOR UK to a UK address will usually be handled free of charge.
Strictly speaking no returns number is required, however it is nice to be made aware of parcel in transit and the relating circumstances.
Free warranty repair will not be carried out on equipment procured from outside of the UK distribution system.
Contact details for UK active dealers and international distributors may be found on our web site.
We can provide repair to non-warranty and non-UK products in our UK workshop on a chargeable basis.
Should you require an estimate prior to the completion of repair, ship the unit to us requesting same, the cost is £ GBP 30.00 this includes return carriage should you not wish to proceed. If you accept the quotation, the estimation charge will be transferred to the final bill as part payment... it is not charged in addition to the final total.
95% of units are repaired within the first hour on the bench (time is calculated very nominally in the customers favour). Turn-around is usually within 7 to 10 days or so.
For UK distributed products the charge is £ GBP 33.00 per hour plus VAT (correct at 25.10.2004), parts are priced at trade cost when work is carried out in our workshop, return carriage extra.
For non-UK products, the charge is £ GBP 38.00 per hour plus VAT (correct at 25.10.2004), parts are priced at trade cost when work is carried out in our workshop, return carriage extra.
Payment may be by credit card, please refer to the payment details page.
AOR UK is able to offer a 'collection' service to UK customers using our courier 'Securicor'... please ask for details. Generally speaking, the Post Office service "Special Delivery" is recommended for cost effectiveness as there is insurance and the parcel arrives next working day by noon. Overseas collection can be arranged using our UPS account, this should be regarded as a 'last measure' due to the potential administrative complexities involved with customs etc.
Overseas shipping from outside of the EEC
Careful handling of paperwork is required when shipping from outside of the EEC (European Economic Community) or import duty and VAT (tax) may be charged in both directions :-( Also, the rules have been tightened in May 2004... the following customs & excise notice 221 covers IPR (but only take a look if you really have a few spare days to read it - its stated here for completeness only):
http://www.hmce.gov.uk/forms/notices/221.htm
This document is not even correct (June 2004) as a C88(SAD) form has replaced the C101 form.
From June 2004 we reserve the right to make a £20.00 handling fee to
cover our administrative costs when receiving repair equipment from outside the
EU/EEC on an IPR basis (we need to fax the courier on arrival with handling instructions
/ authorisation, complete export paperwork, file returns to custom & excise
and store audit paperwork for four years).
Formally there is no need for you to obtain authorisation from us before you
ship the equipment for repair, but advance notice of shipping will enable us
to correctly / cost effectively instruct the courier how to handle the shipment.
Strictly speaking YOU cannot request IPR as the shipper (we have to request IPR
as the importer), but marking the box as IPR will force the courier to contact
us before delivery... this is our opportunity to set up the correct handling
procedure and it will not delay delivery as the paperwork is handled in advance
of the carton's arrival.
| AR7030 being shipped for repair in the UK - from outside
the EEC:
Equipment for repair in the UK then re-export to the USA, IPR required. Courier please complete C88(SAD) + export C88 and use customs procedure code
(CPC) 315100. USA ONLY: The contents are the AOR brand short wave receiver, and therefore, the FCC ID is not required. However, the unit complies with part 15 of the FCC rules. |
| AR5000 (etc) desktop receiver being shipped for repair
in the UK - from outside the EEC:
Equipment for repair in the UK then re-export to the USA, IPR required. Courier please complete C88(SAD) + export C88 and use customs procedure code
(CPC) 315100. |
| AR8200 (etc) hand-portable receiver being shipped for
repair in the UK - from outside the EEC:
Equipment for repair in the UK then re-export to the USA, IPR required. Courier please complete C88(SAD) + export C88 and use customs procedure code
(CPC) 315100. |
Make sure the parcel is marked FOR REPAIR THEN RE-EXPORT, ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN (state your country, such as the USA). Make sure that IPR is stated on ALL of the following (as the carton box and paperwork will become separated by the shipper during processing):
a) carton box
b) shipping invoice
c) waybill
Couriers usually charge about £ GBP 15.00 non-refundable entry fee (in addition to the shipping charges) to handle this paperwork, occasionally there is a further fee of £ GBP 6.04. Ensure that the bill is marked "all charges covered by sender". We like to re-export via the same method, so if you have a FedEx account that can be quoted, this is the best method. FedEx currently make an 'ancillary charge' of £ GBP 30.00 for C88 routing... they are known to mess up the paperwork on occasions resulting in AOR UK having to pay-in-advance the total VAT charge until the next tax quarter... frankly talking with FedEx about this, its hopeless.
If you do not carry out the above, we will be faced with the import charges and may reject the parcel.
If shipping by POST, use the same terminology "IPR" and repair statement but form "C217" must be completed on import. In this case, the duty and VAT (TAX) into the UK can be re-claimed less an entry fee of about £ GBP 6.00 by Parcel Force (UK post office)... however we must pay all charges up front so do not overstate the value as taxes will be based upon it !
Specifically if shipping from the USA via post, the CUSTOMS DISPATCH NOTE PS FORM 2976-A CP72 (old C2/CP3/CP2) should be used, this is available from the USA post office.
Additionally, for USA shipments a special 'foreign repair' form can be completed to accompany the repaired unit back into the USA, a copy is available as a PDF file (5kB) - click here.
If you are lucky enough for the parcel to be routed via Parcel Force at Heathrow airport, it appears from our experience that (eventually) all customs and handling fees may be claimed back.
Couriers will expect you to complete a SHIPPING INVOICE, while this is an obvious requirement for business-to-business shipping, PRIVATE CUSTOMERS must also 'make up' a SHIPPING INVOICE. The format need only be simple, the following 'example' is suggested (up to four copies, originally signed, may be required):-
SHIPPING INVOICE

If you have MS-WORD, you may mark this form by dragging the mouse over it then copy it and paste it into a new Word document when it may be amended and printed.

Every AOR radio receiver has one
special feature - technical support !
With every new model, equipment is getting more and more complex,
while the latest AOR models have well thought out comprehensive
'English' language operating manuals, it is comforting for many
operators to know that technical support is on hand to answer
queries and provide support when required. There are many
'so-called high-tech' products in the radio market but few offer
the same high technical standards of support, those who do are
deserving of great success.
Here at AOR UK, great emphasis is placed on technical support,
both with pre-delivery inspection of product (to dealers, the
government and public) and with after-sales support. A meaningful
12 month warranty is provided with support stretching back to the
factory in Japan, we have four fully equipped benches in our
workshop with full-time staff capable of repair to component
level. Most regular spare parts are carried in UK stock (held on
a computer data-base) along with service manuals, replacement
operating manuals and other associated items ready for supply. We
truly carry out factory level repair here in the UK with a speedy
turn-around, our technical competence and service facility is
ranked with the very best in the business.
Where AOR equipment is concerned, we are confident that no-one
can match our capability outside of AOR Japan and we have worked
hard to make this the case. Of course, we also manufacture the
renowned AR7030 short wave receiver at the same location.
This UK internet web site is not a simple sales gimmick but
carries technical bulletins, free download of most operating
manuals (current and older in PDF Acrobat format), demo &
full software packages and more.
If contemplating the purchase of AOR equipment, ensure that it is
of UK distribution identified with a silver metallic label on the
outside of the carton box, you can then be assured of our full
technical support to the highest standards.
Remember, AOR technical support is an
essential feature of modern equipment.
Since our relocation from Belper to Matlock in September 2004, the photos below are no-longer current, but are still representative of the facilities currently set-up in Matlock.
