MA500

The MA500 is a wide band VHF - UHF mobile whip aerial mounted on a magnetic base. Useable coverage is 25 MHz - 1300 MHz with the loaded whip element being peaked around 150 & 800 MHz. The magnetic base has a diameter of about 85mm and the magnetic attraction is very strong. The aerial is mounted on a PL259 type plug base ready to screw into the magnetic base SO239 socket. Approximately 4m of high quality RG58/U 50 OHM coaxial cable is provided which is fixed into the magnetic base at one end and terminates into a BNC plug at the other ready to plug into most AOR receivers (and most other brands too). The total height of the aerial is approximately 720mm. MA500

Mobile VHF - UHF aerials:

Hand held receivers are often used "on the move" from vehicles. Due to the metalwork of the vehicle and potential noise from the vehicle's electrical system, external aerials are desirable. When an aerial is mounted on the vehicle then the metalwork of the vehicle acts as a groundplane (presuming that it is not fibreglass) enhancing the performance of the aerial system.

The are now many ways to mount an aerial:

1) Hole mount - drill and screw into place... very good performance but should you sell the vehicle there will be a hole remaining.

2) Gutter mounting - proving your car has a gutter (many recent models don't), a fair compromise.

3) Window mount - "sticks" to the window and capacitively couples to the inside through a pad. Gaining popularity but large arrays have been dogged with a reputation of falling off!

4) Magnetic mount (MAG-MOUNT) - often the only feasible temporary mount.
