The AR900 receiver is no-longer serviced. Parts are not available from the manufacturer and service costs equal or exceed the resale value.
It is a fact that older electrical equipment reaches an age where servicing becomes difficult and not cost effective. In particular, the solder connections, PCB and wiring become increasingly brittle. The following units are no-longer accepted for service in the UK workshop:
AR900 Hand-portable receiver, discontinued by 1990. Batteries no longer available from AOR (but see reference to battery re-manufacturers in the technical bulletin page).
| NiCad battery |
| IC209 input regulator failure |
| Microprocessor reset |
Unfortunately demand for this replacement pack has dropped to a point whereby its continued manufacture has become uneconomic. NiCads do not last for ever if stored on the shelf awaiting sale, for this reason regular manufacture and rotation of stock is most important.

The battery comprises of 5 cells physically strapped together in a plastic shroud (three cells on the bottom plus two on the top), soldered in series to provide a total nominal voltage of 6.0V, each cell is AA size, the capacity being 600mAhr (usually quality brands such as Sanyo or Hitachi). A two pin connector being used to connect the battery to the radio.
We can still supply the two pin connectors with wire for NiCads (but not the batteries):
| E33150005/G20 | 2-pin connector with wire | GBP 1.13 inc VAT, P&P on small orders GBP 2.00 inc VAT |
For your information, the BP1500-2P was available until the June 2001 as a sales item, price was £19.50 including VAT with P&P being an additional £2.00
It may be possible to have batteries manufactured /re-manufactured here in the UK by one of the replacement battery manufacturers:

The AR900 has very few common faults. One of the few items
that has been known to fail is IC209.
This is the main 5V regulator and will fail if there is a problem
anywhere else in the set (failed IC or shorted track). It is a
simple component to replace and is located roughly central on the
middle PCB. The only problem with the item is that the correct
device has to be used. This is a 2930L-05. A normal 5V regulator
will not work satisfactorily.
The AR900 doesn't generally suffer from crashing of any sort. There is no actual reset procedure. If problems are experienced, then the only course of action is to remove all sources of power. Re-connection should restore operation. If problems are experienced, then a genuine fault will be present requiring logical fault finding.
